WHY 10%?

It’s estimated that North Carolinians spend $35 billion on food every year. If each of us spent 10% of our grocery budget on local food, $3.5 billion would flow into our local food economy!

About the Campaign

The NC 10% Campaign was founded in 2010 with the aim of boosting local food spending. For over a decade, the Campaign has promoted local food businesses and collected local food spending data from individual consumers, restaurants, and institutions. Local food spending data can be used to inform valuable policy decisions at the city, county and state levels. Dollars spent reinforce our state’s local food economy and give an economic boost to farmers, meat processors, and fisherfolk across the state.

The NC 10% Campaign is harnessing the knowledge gained over the past decade to help counties, cities, and other municipalities conduct their own local food spending reporting. Check out our resources for creating your own 10% Campaign, using materials created by our team. Plus, you can review the impact of our previous programs and dig into the data from our state-wide local food reporting initiative.
